After the Germans invaded Hungary, Péter arrived in Budapest and joined the Zionist underground activities as an employee of the International Red Cross. As of September 1944 he dealt with the rescue of Jewish children, taking them out of the ghetto and bringing them to safe places in children’s houses on Budafoki Street. He took part in other activities too.
